Origins of Christmas Carols” and a tour of Unwrapping the Holidays.
Unwrapping the Holidays explores the history behind some of our most cherished traditions and symbols of the holiday season. Visitors will learn about the origins of the Christmas tree, candy canes, mistletoe, holly, poinsettias, gingerbread houses, Yule logs, and of course – Santa Claus.
The exhibit will feature Christmas decorations from the museum’s permanent collection, including vintage glass bulbs and ornaments, Santa figurines, an aluminum tree, a Precious Moments Christmas Village, and much more. Museum Volunteer Jim Wertz is loaning his collections of commemorative ornaments from Meyers Lake and the United States Capitol Historical Society, featuring key scenes from American history.
The Museum is located at 800 McKinley Monument Dr NW in Canton.
