Fall Festival of Art on Saturday, September 15 located at Studio Arts and Glass in Canton, Ohio.
Artists will be selling hand blown glass, sculpture, jewelry and fall items. You can sign up for a class to make a wreath or another craft class. There will also be music and free refreshments. It will certainly make for a nice afternoon.

Once again one of our favorite festivals is this weekend, Sept 8 & 9, and the following two weekends in September. They have great artisans displaying their hand made goods, good outdoor food, colonial re-enactments, music and more. The event is held rain or shine at Clay’s Park in Massillon.

Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast ——————————-
Cookies – a favorite of almost everyone for a delicious snack. It’s counterpart is biscotti in Italian or mandel bread in Jewish families. Whatever you want to call it, however, you are going to love this recipe passed down to me by my best and longest friend, Marsha.
3 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. quick or regular oatmeal
1 c. butter, room temperature
1 1/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 T. fresh lemon juice
3 eggs, room temperature
1 c. finely chopped walnuts
1 T. cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 and line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Sift together the flour, baking powder & salt and stir in the oatmeal. Set aside
Cream the butter, 1 c. of sugar, vanilla and lemon juice together until light & fluffy.
Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing until incorporated.
Mix in the dry ingredients until the dough is smooth. Add the nuts.
Divide dough into quarters. Using floured hands, lay one quarter lengthwise on a prepared cookie sheet, molding it into a cylindrical strip 8 1/2 inches in length by 2 inches in diameter. Place a couple of inches from the edge of the pan. Form a second strip on that same cookies sheet. Then place 2 more strips on the other sheet.
Mix the remaining 1/4 c. sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle generously over each strip.
Bake about 20 – 25 minutes until firm to the touch and lightly golden
Remove from oven, but leave the oven on. Cut each strip into 3/4 inch thick slices and arrange all the slices on the sheet about 1/2 inch apart. Bake until crisp and golden about 15 minutes.

On Tuesday, August 21st, the Dock restaurant located at the East Marina will host a wine tasting event. A representative from Standing Stone Vineyards, located in the Seneca Lake area of the finger lakes in New York, will be presenting 6 different wine choices. The restaurant will include little bites to go along with the wine. Limited space available. 6 – 9 pm. $20 per person.

Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast ——————————-
I, myself, just discovered this little gem of something unique to do on the way to your overnight stay at Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast. It’s the 8th annual Buy-Way yard sale along the Lincoln Highway in Ohio. This fun time begins August 9th – 11th. The event jumps across the border to West Virginia, with parts of Indiana, Illinois and Iowa’s Lincoln Highway communities as well.
Shoppers will find just about anything rummaging through over a thousand sales in Ohio alone. This is presented by the Lincoln Highway Historic Byway,
A free Travelers Guide, featuring a map of the byway’s sometimes two parallel paths across Ohio, will be available to travelers at businesses along the corridor. This website lists the locations where the guides will be available as well as many of the yard sale sites and other attractions.
An “online” scavenger hunt will again be part of the three-day event.
This three-day BUY-WAY Yard Sale has not only introduced people from all over the country to the history of America’s first coast-to-coast paved road, but it also provides an economic boost to the communities that participate, and it serves the thrifty side of all of us who find that bargain.

Canton Food Tours is presenting a Farm to Table Tour on Saturday, August 11th, from 2 – 6:30 pm. I thought this was such a great idea that I have added on an overnight at our Ohio Bed and Breakfast. We’ll welcome you at Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast and complete your ‘food’ trip with a great breakfast in the morning.
The tour begins at Breezy Hill organic farm located in Homeworth, Ohio. As you stroll through the gardens of fruits, vegetables and flowers, you will learn what it takes to operate an organic farm.
The second half of the tour is a multi-course dinner with items from Breezy Hill at Lucca’s Downtown. Dinner will include a wine pairing and of course dessert.
The price of $65 per person includes transportation, farm tour, dinner, taxes, gratuity and includes a take-home goodie bag. The choice of guestroom at the Inn is additional.

Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast
We recently discovered a winery in Navarre, Ohio that is call ‘The Winery at Perennial Vineyards‘. It produces several varietals such as Vidal blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet and more. There are daily wine tastings but they are closed on Monday.
They also offer a small menu of appetizers, gourmet flat breads, and pizza’s.
Why not spend an afternoon visiting the winery and stay at Whispering Pines B & B in the evening.

Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast ——————————-
I always bake everything from scratch at Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast, never using box mixes. But once in awhile when I have run out of time, I bake this very tasty and easy cake. I would like to share the recipe with you because everyone is tight on time and if you have the ingredients in the house you can prepare this in about 10 minutes, plus bake time.
PINEAPPLE – LEMON BUNDT CAKE
1 package pineapple cake mix (not the pudding)
1 package (3.4 oz) instant lemon pudding
1 c. sour cream
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 tsp. lemon juice
Mix all the ingredients together.
Topping:
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Combine all the ingredients
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a bundt pan
Spread half of batter, then half of the topping. Top with the rest of the batter, then topping.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes
Cool on rack for 10 minutes before removing.
