Unexpected Visitor at our Ohio Bed & Breakfast

Last week we had an unexpected visitor.  Radar did not make a reservation in advance, just showed up, but we let him stay anyway – free of charge.

We named him Radar because he is a Racing Homer Pigeon who lost his way and was looking for a place to rest his tired body for a few days to try and figure out what went wrong.  He stayed by our ponds in the daytime and roosted on our roof in the evening.

We learned a lot about racing pigeon’s.  Because Bill was able to get close enough to see the numbers on his band and feed him, we called the AU – the American Pigeon Racing Union.  They were able to match the numbers to the owner.  He lived in Louisville Kentucky and raced Radar 2 weeks ago.  He got lost and ended up at our Bed & Breakfast, about 300 miles north of Louisville.  The owner was not interested in driving here to pick him up so with the help of the AU we found Richard, another pigeon racer who lives about a 1/2 hour drive from us.  He asked Bill to contain him so he could get him home.  So, at midnight Bill climbed up the ladder to capture a very calm and non-resistant pigeon and place him in a ‘Have a Heart Trap’ for the night.  Radar eventually found him way back to Kentucky when he was driven by another man who was racing in the area.  He let him go when he got to Louisville and they were 100% confident that Radar would find his way home.

What a great story that he would pick a Bed & Breakfast for lodging and food.

I’ll look forward to seeing you soon,
Linda

Innsitter at Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast in Dellroy, Ohio

I wanted to share a picture of Barb & Bob, our Innsitters.  Bill and I have gone on a few vacations and they have taken our place when we were not able to be at the Bed & Breakfast.

Bob has a culinary background and loves to make breakfast for everyone.  His presentations are excellent as well.  They have enjoyed meeting everyone and you will enjoy them as well.

They will be staying for a few days in June and then hopefully in the fall at some point.

On my next post I’ll have some photos of the breakfast they prepared.

I’ll look forward to seeing you soon,
Linda

Great Restaurant and Overnight Stay at our Romantic Ohio Bed & Breakfast

The other night we had the pleasure of having dinner at a fantastic restaurant call the ‘Table‘ with friends and fellow innkeepers Carol & Herb Steffey of Garden-Gate Get-A-Way Bed and Breakfast.  The restaurant is located in Millersburg, Ohio but is moving to Massillon, Ohio in a few months.

Everything was outstanding including the table setting, presentation, homemade bread to start, entree, and dessert.

I took many pictures and decided to showcase the dessert we had because everyone loves a great taste of sweetness at the end of a perfect meal.  This was a fresh berry tart served with roasted peanuts, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, a shaving of white chocolate and a very light and refreshing mascarpone ice cream.  It was served so creatively on an old piece of roofing slate.

We all had a chance to meet and talk to Kent, the owner and chef extraordinarie and his wife.  A very friendly, and warm couple dedicated to serving fresh, farm to table, clean food without hormones, pesticides, etc.  We wish them much success in the opening of their new restaurant and can’t wait to go again.

On your next visit to Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast, we will be delighted to reserve a table for you at ‘The Table’.

I’ll look forward to seeing you soon,
 Linda

Combine a stay at Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast in Ohio with a visit to the Canton Museum of Art

Combine an overnight stay at our romantic bed and breakfast overlooking beautiful Atwood Lake with a visit to the Canton Art Museum and we will include the cost of two ticket’s.  Just mention this blog.

Focus: Fiber 2011, a juried triennial exhibition of contemporary fiber art, will be on display at the Canton Museum of Art from December 2 through March 4, 2012. Hosted in coordination with the Textile Art Alliance of the Cleveland Museum of Art, Focus: Fiber 2011 features the best of contemporary textile/fiber work and pushes the boundaries of the medium — merging ancient and new techniques in exciting and surprising ways.

Focus: Fiber 2011 features 50 works by 39 artists, ranging from miniature to very large wall pieces, as well as 3 dimensional works using non-traditional materials such as tea bags and dryer lint. Two hundred and seventy-eight pieces were submitted from an eight state region — Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The submissions varied from installation and performance works, to innovative re-visioning of traditional textiles. Entries were juried by internationally recognized fiber artist Dorothy Caldwell, of Hastings, Ontario. Says Caldwell, “Focus: Fiber 2011-12 provides a broad cross-section of work in an important field of contemporary art. I was struck by the audacious use of eccentric fabrics and casual construction – the unpredictable carrier of a message.”

Museum Hours:

Monday – closed; Tuesday, Wednesday – 10 am – 8 pm; Thursday – Friday – 10 am – 5 pm; Saturday – 10 am – 3 pm; Sunday – 1 pm to 5 pm

I’ll look forward to seeing you soon,
