This Saturday, June 2nd from 10 am to 4 pm plan on going to the Art Fest on Market Street in Downtown Minerva.  Artists, Woodturners, Entertainment and good food is on the agenda.  No charge.

Canton Activities Near Our Ohio Bed and Breakfast

The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum will celebrate McKinley Day on January 28, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with special activities to honor the President. The traditional Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Open Hearth Cooking demonstrations, special shows in Discover World and history tours will also be offered. Planetarium presentations will be held at 11 a.m., 1 and 2 p.m. Lunch will be available for purchase. Enjoy reduced admission of $5 per person which includes the planetarium presentations.

Discover the History of Christmas

Unwrapping the Holidays: The History and Traditions of the Yuletide Season will open in the Keller Gallery of the McKinley Presidential Library & Museum on Friday November 18.

Origins of Christmas Carols”  and a tour of Unwrapping the Holidays.

Unwrapping the Holidays explores the history behind some of our most cherished traditions and symbols of the holiday season. Visitors will learn about the origins of the Christmas tree, candy canes, mistletoe, holly, poinsettias, gingerbread houses, Yule logs, and of course – Santa Claus.

The exhibit will feature Christmas decorations from the museum’s permanent collection, including vintage glass bulbs and ornaments, Santa figurines, an aluminum tree, a Precious Moments Christmas Village, and much more. Museum Volunteer Jim Wertz is loaning his collections of commemorative ornaments from Meyers Lake and the United States Capitol Historical Society, featuring key scenes from American history.

The Museum is located at 800 McKinley Monument Dr NW in Canton.

Christmas Fair in Canton, Ohio

Christkindl Markt, a Canton holiday tradition, celebrates its 40th year, November 11-13

The perfect kick-off to the holiday season, Christkindl Markt features 100 exhibitors and is a great place to find unique holiday gifts — with thousands of hand-made items including jewelry, pottery, artwork, candy, floral arrangements and holiday decorations. Zoar Ohio close to Atwood Lake in Dellroy, Ohio

The 38th Annual Harvest Festival and Antique Show will be held in Zoar, Ohio on August 6th & 7th.

This is the antique show Bill and I always look forward to attending because there are over 60 high quality antique dealers displaying their goods.  Maybe we’ll find a glass top hat to add to our collection.

In addition there are many artisans, wagon rides and tours of scenic Zoar Village including the Ohio HIstorical Society Museum Buildings.

Tickets are $7 and good for both days.  If you stay overnight at our Ohio Bed and Breakfast, Whispering Pines, we will include the cost of your tickets.

Warrior Dash in Carroll County, Ohio

The Warrior Dash is coming to Carroll County and it’s going to be one crazy event.  The worldwide event is an obstacle course 5K run.  It is a mud-crawling, fire-leaping, extreme run and is held on the most challenging and rugged terrain across the globe.  Warriors conquer 12 extreme obstacles, push their limits, and celebrate with music, drinks and warrior helmets.

Online resgistration is currently more than 8,800 and is expected to grow to 12,000, according the the producers of the event, Red Frog Productions.  It will take place September 10th in Carrollton and the cost to compete is $55.

Visit the Grand Re-opening of McCook House Civil War Museum and stay overnight at Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast

After undergoing a major $500,000 renovation, the Ohio Historical Society’s McCook House Civil War Museum in Carrollton will reopen on Friday May 20th.  A full day of activities are planned for Saturday and Sunday including a Civil-War encampment.

The 1837 Federal Style brick house was built by Daniel McCook who along with his eight sons, two brothers and six nephews, served to preserve the Union.  The family became known as the “Fighting McCooks” because of their combined military service.

This opening coincides with the observance of the Civil War’s 150th anniversary.  There are many civil war stories in Ohio and this is one that should not be missed.

Blissfully Chocolate and our Ohio Bed and Breakfast

Who doesn’t love chocolate?  I know I do in everything from candy to brownies to drinks.

On Tuesday, June 7th, the 4th annual Blissfully Chocolate event will take place at the Days Inn in Carrollton from 5 to 8 pm.  There will be approximately 10 vendors showcasing anything chocolate.  You can sample and purchase.  All proceeds will help the Downtown Carrollton Business Association decorate for the Christmas season.

McKinley Day Celebration and overnight at our Ohio Bed & Breakfast

The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum will hold its annual McKinley Day celebration on Saturday, January 29 from 9:00 to 4:00. McKinley Day commemorates the anniversary of the President’s birth on January 29, 1843.

Civil War re-enactors, special shows in Discover World, and an open hearth cooking demonstration in the Street of Shops will also be featured. Special new exhibits will be on view in Discover World. McKinley Day will be the final day to view the Smithsonian traveling exhibit The White House Garden in the Keller Gallery.

A William McKinley impersonator will present first person talks on the President’s life throughout the day. The Hoover-Price Planetarium will present the show “Matters of Size,” exploring the great distances and differences in the size of objects in our universe, including the universe itself.
A highlight of the festivities will be a moving wreath-laying ceremony, where a General representing the White House will place a wreath at the bust of President McKinley, located just outside the Museum building.
Discounted admission to the Museum is $5 per person for this special celebration of President McKinley’s birthday. Museum members are admitted free. For more information, please call the Museum at 330-455-7043. The Museum is located at 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW in Canton.
